Project: 379C Canberra HDB BTO Design By: Shermaine & Wayne (INTERIOR ARTIST) Theme: Modern Minimalist Industrial

In the vibrant landscape of Singapore's urban planning, HDB flats often present a unique challenge: how to craft a home that is both exceptionally functional and deeply personal within a standardized layout.

For the owners of this 379C Canberra BTO, designers Shermaine and Wayne of Interior Artist rose to the occasion, delivering a stunning Modern Minimalist Industrial abode that redefines compact living. This project is a testament to thoughtful space planning and a meticulous eye for detail, perfectly tailored for the modern Singaporean couple. The design seamlessly merges the raw, unpretentious charm of industrial aesthetics with the clean, uncluttered principles of minimalism, focusing on a sophisticated balance of textures, light, and smart design choices. Visually, the design adheres to a Monochromatic Colour Scheme, using cool greys, charcoals, and whites to establish a refined backdrop. This restraint in color is deliberately softened by the introduction of warm wood grain laminates, a critical contrast that grounds the entire design and adds essential warmth. The industrial influence is present but understated, notably on the textured Feature Wall in the living area which serves as the primary focal point.

The living room is designed around the core principles of minimalism and flow. The space is anchored by a floor-to-ceiling Feature Wall finished in a textured, cement-screed effect laminate, serving as the definitive focal point for the entire communal area. This feature wall cleverly incorporates hidden conduits for a seamless, wall-mounted display setup. Essential to the minimalist look is the exclusive use of Recessed LED Downlighting complemented by Cove Lighting along the perimeter, which provides indirect, ambient illumination while completely avoiding visual clutter from fixtures. Furnishings are kept sparse and low-profile to maintain sightlines and maximize the perception of depth across the Open-Concept layout.

The kitchen is a technical masterclass in Integrated Storage Solutions. The design employs a dual-toned scheme where cool grey, matte-finish handle-less cabinetry forms the bulk of the utility space, achieving a clean, industrial edge. Upper and lower cabinets are built flush to the ceiling, providing extensive concealed storage and a seamless, architectural look. The countertops are likely constructed from highly durable, low-maintenance engineered stone. The layout prioritizes an efficient workflow, with all appliances either built-in or concealed behind panels to uphold the clutter-free aesthetic. Metallic fixtures in a matte black or dark bronze finish add the necessary Industrial accent against the sleek Monochromatic backdrop.

In the compact HDB bathroom, the design prioritizes material consistency and high utility. Large-format, dark grey or black homogeneous tiles are specified for both the floor and shower walls, enhancing the Monochromatic theme and minimizing grout lines for easy maintenance—a practical consideration for HDB wet areas. The vanity features a custom, Integrated Storage unit mounted off the floor to create the illusion of space and simplify cleaning. All plumbing fixtures are simple, geometric, and often finished in black or brushed metal to reinforce the industrial minimalism, completing a look that is both highly durable and aesthetically consistent with the rest of the home.

The 379C Canberra BTO by Shermaine and Wayne stands as a powerful source of inspiration, proving that a clear vision focusing on Modern Minimalist Industrial principles, Integrated Storage Solutions, and a highly functional Open-Concept Living layout can transform a standard flat into a personalized sanctuary.
